/ Abstract

mutu cu sapi lu jocu (from Sicilian, literally "Those who know the riddle, keep the solution secret")talks about lives, about faith, dissatisfaction, roots, attachment.

Turi, the protagonist, is left unsatisfied, disenchanted and tormented in a reality in which he experiences discomfort. He feels stung by everything around him, stuck in the remembrance of a past and a first love lost forever.

He is not able to find a way out. Or perhaps he does not want to. Or perhaps he cannot.

/ Screenings & awards

Mutu cu sapi lu jocu premiered at cinema nuovo armenia (milan) on 25/06/2022 as part of the Ricette d'Autore film festival, and was awarned with the prizes for best photography and best picture.

In 2023 the movie was selected to partecipate at the independet film festival lato-corto, promoted by lato b (milan) and was screened during the opening night on 29/05.

/ Concept

The contents presented within the short film emerged from a painstaking process of collegial introspection which guided the story-telling and shaped the situations, aesthetics, and personalities portrayed. The relationship with the divine, with our own origins, our homeland as a political and social space, with dissatisfaction and love: brought on stage through autobiographical cues, streams of consciousness, private confessions and thoughts, these themes serve as a collective manifesto and make up the ultimate purpose of the short film: to provoke reflections.

Reflections about the conception and perception of the human being, within itself and in relation to its surroundings, its feelings, emotions, thus, its life.

Mutu cu sapi lu jocu does not pretend or try to provide an answer to these questions, it settles for raising them, inviting the viewer to do the same.
